... and if all goes well on Monday, 11/20/06, he will be the new owner of a used red '05 V10 EB model.

Found what appears to be a good one within 100 miles of home ... looked good online anyway. Talked with the dealer, and will trade-in LANDYOT-1. Taking a motorcycle ride there on Sunday to give it a preliminary once-over.

Can you guess what the first modification will be? The answer can be found within this list ...

Nope. And it isn't my radius-rods either. That leaves three possibilities.

A new guy to the forum nailed it! WELCOME to the X-files.

Yes, going to remove the crossbars. In fact, I'll ask them to just transfer them to my '01 because I got rid of mine a few years back.

There's plenty of good folk here willing to share their knowledge of both what to do and what to avoid. Copying my set-up? While I'm a bit flattered, I'm certain you'll eventually have your X configured exactly how you want it. If you run across any situation for which you cannot find an answer, speak up by posting a thread. Again, welcome to FordExcursions.com

I got a chance to view the prospective LANDYOT-2 today while the dealership was closed. I found three cosmetic items that should give me a wee bit of leverage when closing the deal, especially since it looks like one of them was some very recent paint-work on the right-rear corner (bodywork dust was still on the right-rear wheel). The other two blemishes may be taken care of with some colored car wax (Is that stuff still available? I hope so!). The rear bumper is also off center about 3/8" ... coincidental to the right-rear repaint ... evidence there may have been a minor accident ... possibly right there on the dealer's lot, but where it happened is not a concern. Nothing behind the sheet metal was bent or appeared to have been re-worked. While these three small items distract from the overall image, they're all items I can fix myself.

I hate reinventing the wheel, and I need a strong roof rack to carry a hobie cat sail boat when I have the travel trailer hitched up. I need to get the boat about 2 inches above the roof and the factory racks are no where near doing the job. Good luck with the negotiations on your new truck.

Whoa! That's a fair amount of weight, but more than that, that's a lot of surface area that will be in the wind. In lieu of modified Explorer crossbars like mine, I'd suggest looking to see what Yakima or Thule have to offer ... and maybe a few other companies. Those companies may have something a little more substantial that will fit into the channels bolted to the roof.

BTW, I did pick up the '05 EB today. X-2 is now in the driveway bearing my LANDYOT vanity plates. It was a semi-sad moment pulling off the lot, and leaving X-1 there.
