Bill,
Your knowledge and insight has saved many of us THOUSANDS!
Why do you recommend that we stay away from the Diesel Secret stuff?
Call me Curious George, but this interests me, BUT and a very big one at that…. I cannot destroy my X with my curiosity.
Thank you for your reply.
James

I'm just trying to help out where I can
One of the ingredients you have to add to DSE is Gasoline

Here's a THREAD that might explain it abit more

Ain't gonna catch me adding Gasoline to my Diesel engine no way no how

I have a 6.0L and really have not noticed a big difference in performance with the ULSD. Is the 6.0L designed different, or am I just not perseptive?

I try to fill up at a local truck stop that has the 500PPM for the lubrication factor, but it is not always convenient.

Obviously I want my X to run for ever, so I am always interested to here about alternatives to ULSD.

Most people that have Diesel powered vehicles just fill it with whatever's at the pump and drive it,but myself and many others however keep a close ear to how an engine responds to various PPM fuels,Bio Diesel blends, etc.

When most of the stations up here in Dallas went 15PPM in Sept it wasn't no more than 2 months the exhaust smoked more, the engine started running rougher, the injectors got louder, the injector O rings began leaking Diesel fuel into the crankcase oil(based on laboratory testing) which over the medium to long term could have devastating effects to the engines internal components if not resolved promptly.

Since all the O-rings had been replaced we now only fill with the higher lubricating 500 PPM fuel,B20 & higher % BioDiesel to maintain the level of lubricating properties the engine was designed to run on.

I figured a new set of injectors are about $2,400 dollars and an engine with installation is $10,000-$15,000 give or take.Higher lubricating fuels in our case is one way to keep our $$$ in the wallet and not into engine repairs.

Funny you mention this. My wife and I just test drove a new Mercedes GL with the diesel engine yesterday and my wife commented that she was concerned about the ease of finding diesel fuel conveniently and the sales person told her that she could put up to a 3/4 of a tank of unleaded in it, to get to a station that had diesel with out a problem.

I was shocked and thought... I would check with the warranty dept before I would ever do that.

I don't know what the other makes do but if anything keep a 5 gallon pail of soybean oil in the trunk for the just in case scenario
