(although a little tact could have been used)

True enough! My lack of tact was directed at the Korean tires and not to the owner of them, however. He did say the word cheap first though!

woof. woof.

Yep- I did call them cheap first. I still think they are. However, I think I'm cheaper - they're brand new, and I'm not willing to repace them until I've gotten some life out of them. Unfortunately, I don't know any local Excursion owners to try a wheel swap with, and don't want to spend $500 to find out it's not the tires.

Might have a F250 that I can swap with- haven't yet checked into it enough to know if they are compatible though. Don't even know if the 250 is 4wd.

Doesn't matter if it's 4WD, all 2000 thru 2005 SuperDuty trucks and Excursion have the same bolt pattern. BUT be careful about lug nuts! The thread pitch was changed somewhere along the line. So if you get an opportunity to temporarily swap-out wheels, be cautious about the lug nuts ... don't force 'em on ... they may not be interchangeable. If you're both using factory aluminum rims, then use your lug nuts. I think the thread change started with the '02 model, but I'm probably wrong ... could've been '03 ... I dunno for certain.

Ted, what pressures you running in those tires?

If I remember correctly, 55 front, 65 rear- I'm going by the placard on the driver's door.

Tire PSI settings can be a very personal choice. The door jamb placard provides you with the minimum settings, and the maximum settings are posted on your tires' sidewalls.

Now that I've been driving it for almost two months and have gotten used to everything, I think the actual problem is with the front end - feels like there's some slop/play in the steering. I probably need to jack it up and feel if there is any play in the front wheels with the steering wheel locked down, but haven't gotten my beefier jack yet to be able to do that. So, in the meantime, I firgured I'd ask to see if anyone knew if there was an issue with the X's with something wearing out that might cause excess play in the steering (I've got 36k miles on it, 4WD.)

Thanks,
Ted

A common cause for that play you feel is brought on by a "loose" steering gear. It can be adjusted to "tighten" it up. But a little goes a long way.

Search here for steering gear and if nothing turns up head over the ford-trucks.com and search the Super Duty forum.

landyot, will you be producing some radious-rods in the near future? I have a 2000 Excursion I want to get them for.
also, I just bought this excursion with 100k on it. I love it, but that spring wrap is something else. I put the bilsteins on (I wish I read your post before I did) it made a difference in the spring wrap. BUT, the spring wrap was going on for so long that the ubolts wore an oblong hole in the upper plate above the leaf springs and began cutting into the ubolts themselves. I am not in the process of trying to find new plates to replace the old ones, and I want to add the radious rods to eliminate the problem for ever.
thanks
