Okay... Let's give it a try...

First, pull off the switch plate on the DS door.... then pull the mirror "toggle" switch pigtail off... with the flat side of the pigtail on top of the thumb (female wire pins facing you) and the "nub" end of the pigtail under Mr. Pointer finger (you're pinching it).... eight female pins are facing you. From left to right top row... 1 (orange/green-power) 2 (empty) 3 (green) 4(red).

Red and green are left / right control... try flip flopping 3 & 4.

Using a tiny jewelers screwdriver I was able to pop out one female pin, but after and hour of attempting to pop the second one out, I gave up and put the popped one back on, and put the switch plate back together.

I have LOADS of patience (and yes it is a virtue) (plus, remember I teach P.E. to elementary kids...) I figured If I was the one with the 08 mirrors I would not have given up until I won

Try it... it might work.

It didn't work...well...I can't really say that. Those wires are indeed left & right controls but they control which mirror can be a adjusted; passenger or driver's side.

There are 3 "qualifying" wires left. Blue, purple and orange. The yellow is power and I assume the black ground. Since there are 4 functions that seem to be controlled by 3 wires I wonder how one could go about switching them around...

Thanks for your help, Bob!! I'm willing to try any other suggestions. Those wires can be easily pulled out of the BACK of the connector using then end of a large paper clip.

I ran into this same issue when I installed Mustang power mirrors on my Fiero-based GT40 replica. Ford only uses 3 wires to GM's 4 wire arrangement. There are only 2 functions to be controlled (not 4) ... vertical & horizontal. So you have two feed wires and a common "return" wire to complete the loop for both of the feed wires. To reverse direction, the polarity is reversed between the two wires being used at that moment via the switch. The "common" wire is used in all scenarios ... hence the name.

Ahhhhhhhh...makes sense. I was thinking 4 because of L/R/U/D.

Any idea which wire is the "common"?

Sorry. I sold my old '01 wiring diagram book, and I haven't bothered buying an '05 yet.

Use a voltmeter and test the function of each lead as you operate the switch. That's what I did when I wired my kit car's mirrors. You should be able to determine which wire is always in use ... the "common" wire, and which wires control the vertical & horizontal movements.

Assuming wire #1 is the common, and "H" = Hot and "C" = Cold, a voltmeter test should give the following results ...

Wire No. .......1 .........2 ........3
Up..................H.........C.........C
Down............C..........H.........C
Left................H..........C.........C
Right.............C..........C.........H

Ken (Landyot), Shouldn't you be welding? I think I'm going to be the first Excursion to have your radius rods and RAS (just got a great deal on ebay for 100 bucks).

Ken (MONSTA), Here's a copy of the mirror wire diagrams (I hope it comes up).

Click on the link and it'll take you there!!

Hope this helps.

I did get some welding done tonight, and then changed my set-up to start the next operation. I'd probably get more done if I hadn't subscribed to this thread.

A previous R-Rod buyer said he telephoned the RAS folks, and asked directly if they did anything for spring-wrap. According to that person, RAS told him, "No, not really." As a disclaimer, let me reiterate that this info posted here is secondhand, so please take it as such. Some folks are pleased as punch with 'em, and I wish them the very best.

Looks like my guess was right about the up/down & left/right motions.

WHAT!?! You mean you were just GUESSING!?

I'm looking at the female plug schematic. Why are there TWO L/R and TWO U/D?
