Gearman;
I too am interested in the pan, when you get the prices, let me know. I have researched the PML pans in the past and have wavered between the PML and the Mag Hytec pans. I do know that mag-hytec pans require the cross member be moved otherwise it is too deep to fit. On another note, there was a discussion between pans and tranny cooler. The arguments are;
1. Pans add fluid but the worse condition which the fluids get hot, ie. driving without adequate air flow @ 30-40mph with out TC lock up; the finned pans don't cool any extra.
2. The filter statement you made regarding pickup does negate the advantage of the pan.
3. An additional tranny cooler will cool some if there is still air flow through the point the cooler is installed vs. pan (I think)
4. Price $400.00 for pan (new fluids included) vs. about $100.00 for cooler.
So what is being said is that IMHO a pan although does add more fluids and a very small amount of cooling, is only effective if you are moving at cruising speeds, however in conditions which these 4R100 gets hot (slow moving conditions) the pans would at best keep your fluids from french frying your tranny a little further than normal ?
But all said and confused, I am opting for pan and tranny cooler on both my rigs to get the added safety. |

coolers are not that effective below 35 mph(they need airflow)the best setup for coolers(i posted in another thread)is to run 2 coolers in parallel after the radiator.diesels will benefit from a deeper pan because they can heat the fluid much easier than a gas motor.it also helps tremendously having an aftermarket torque converter,TransGo shift kit,and synthetic fluid.
