Mike, I got a question about this. We just got back from a trip to Pismo towing our trailer. My temp gauge didn't move a bit. Not even going up Cuesta Grade at 1pm. Would this parallel cooler be overkill, or is it just a precautionary measure?? |

are you talking about your engine gauge or trans temp gauge?only a trans temp gauge will tell you if the trans is working hard.maybe your load is not that heavy, plus its not a diesel so it wont push the trans as hard.you may not need anymore than you have

Mike,
I will report back after I travel to the Smokie Mountains(516 miles) pulling my 7200lb camper. I installed a Autometer Phatom series Tranny and water temp gauges. I have noticed it(temp) stays around 140 or so when not towing. I will take notes going down to Tenn. as for the grade and temp. I will be going to the top of a 6600 ft mountain also but solo. I do drive a gasser!!!

Mike, I am talking about engine temp gauge, I don't have a tranny temp gauge. Should I put one in?? Especially if I am going to be towing our trailer?? It is no where near the maximum towing load, it is only about 6-7k lbs fully loaded. I don't think that the truck is working very hard pulling it, I just like to be on the safe side of things.

I think that anyone pulling should put a trans temp guage in , you can't be too carefull. On another note, installed a B&M tranny cooler on front of my 99 f350 and what a huge difference it makes. My temps stay about 20 degrees cooler than the excursion and does not fluctuate like the excursion stock cooler either. Will plan on installing the same cooler in the Excursion next weekend. BTW, this one is som small , it simply mounts in front of the stock radiator

do these temps stay cooler at normal driving?if so,i would dump it. i would not use anything else but a tru cool. the tru cool channels the fluid through the cooler when needed.it bypasses through the top tube when cooling is not needed. get into some cold climates and you can kill your trans if it is not hot. do some homework before you start bying cheap hotrod outdated stuff.

Mike, I was thinking about putting a trans cooler from the V10 in my PSD. I have heard they are 1 1/2 times larger are a direct bolt in and a very nice up grade to the PSD. The V10 cooler from fordparts.com cost about $100.00.
What do you think the parallel cooler will cost? Thanks , Ken |

the new tru cool cooler is on backorder(funny how they advertise and have no product)we can do the parallel with the next size down and have the same effect.(i just like overkill) i will do this shortly. as far as the v10 cooler,as long as its a tru cool,it will work fine.and if you want to do the parallel,it will take a little work, but it can be done with any cooler made.
