OK. I hope this doesn't get to be one of those long, drawn out investigations, but this is the deal.....The person wanting to sell his F250 springs responded to me and said the only numbers he could find on the new springs he removed from his 2002 4X4 F250 Diesel were described in this fashion "the numbers that were in embossed and painted were these: 2C34adaRPN1781 and 2C34AAARPN1631"

Can anyone decipher these numbers or are they not the numbers I need to determine the "code" of the springs? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

dnp

Well, I know this is a little difficult. The code is actually on the very end as the assembly worker would see it with all the springs loaded one on top of the other in a crate or on a pallet. Having worked on the line myself, I tell you that the assemblier is not reading all those little numbers. Thas why you see little paint marks on all kinds of parts so the assembly is a bit more straight forword.

All that notwithstanding, if you trust the springs came off a superduty, I doubt that the differences are big enough to worry about on the spring rate and exact code. If the spring is stiffer, I bet you will still see an improvement because of suspension travel. If you want to be safe and keep it simple, just find some springs off a superduty with the same engine as yours.

I just received an answer from the guy with the springs. He said they are "V" code springs........Since they are stiffer, would anyone have a comment on whether they should be used or not?

It appears that there is only a .17 inch height change difference between the "U" codes and the "V" codes, but there is also a stiffness difference........I certainly don't want the truck to ride any harsher, if I can avoid it, so does anyone have an opinion on this?

Keep in mind that my objective is to get my 2000 V-10 4x4 Excursion sitting level and gain a little more suspension travel. In conjunction, I also plan to install new Bilsteins, so I'm trying to find the best overall setup.

Thanks,

dnp

here is an excerpt from previous thread and it looks like he was with the v code and the difference in rate is 20 lbs:

Monsta is correct, replace your old worn out shocks first! I went with the Rancho 9000x 9 way adjustable shocks from samsoffroad.com. I then found a "V" code Ford spring set from a 2003 F-250 and put then on getting almost 2 full inches of lift at the bump stop! Before I couldn't put my hand between the bump stop and the axle. The "U" code for a V10 are perfect for leveling out your ride, I need a 1" lift in the rear to level out the truck but the ride is awesome.

Below is a spring chart made by our freind "Bruce" at thedieselstop.com

Spring info

Front axle weights used are 4080, & D code springs for the PSD and 3680, & C code springs for the V-10

Application---Code---Capacity-----Rate----Travel --------- V-10 ----- PSD

Looks like "U" codes are what I need.......By the way, Superlift has a new complete "soft ride" system out for the Excursion - lifts the front 3" and the rear 1.5"......Anyone know about/have experience with this system.

It's a little more expensive than I want, but I'm unable to locate any "U" code springs.....It's a whole lot cheaper than "The Edge" systems, and you get entirely new front springs, rather than reusing the original ones........Any advice?

Thanks,

dnp
