Yesterday my Excursion began making a rattling sound from the motor. Dealer thinks it sounds like a rod. Anyone else had major engine problems with low - mid milage 5.4 engines. |

Barrett, it is semi-hard to find the 5.4 in Excursions. You might have better luck on an Expedition or F150 site. The vehicle may be different, but the engine is the same. Good luck.

What was the final diagnosis? Mine has been doing the same thing. '00 Excursion with 5.4 and almost 70k miles.

My 5.4 is toast. Number 4 piston and no extended warranty.

Hey Mike,
Sorry I haven't been to this site in a while. Diagnosis-blown engine, cost-$5500. I must have had a slow oil leak. Had no spots on the driveway or garage floor, but only had a quart in it when it blew.

Sorry to hear about that, that really sucks bigtime. My father had a 97F150 with the 4.2 V6 and had the bearings spin at 60K miles. They somehow fixed themself until 90K when it started again. He ended up donating the truck to the blind.
At least it's not a GM V8 they are doing a class action law suit due to bad engine knocks, some 800,000 motors are effected! I guess all the V8's from 99 to 2002. If the law suit goes through this will really hurt GM.
