Here's why a lot of these fail--the travel stop breaks, so it reads that it's at an invalid position. This is actually a piece of 1/4" fuel hose; the original stop is nylon and usually breaks into multiple pieces. Cut a fresh piece of 1/4" fuel line and use it for a replacement stop.
