| Mileage: |
250000 |
| Engine: |
4.6L bone stock, but from a '00 MGM controlled by a '99 P71 PCM |
| Drivetrain: |
4R70W from the same '00 MGM |
| Notes: |
Bought used at auction sight unseen in 8/04. Blew the engine during the change to synthetic oil, so I got the engine & trans from a 2000 Grand Marquis & the PCM from a '99 cop car, and rewired my dash so the '00 engine bay harness would plug in with virtually no mods. The fuel tank was also swapped to include the later FTP sensor. At the same time, it was converted to factory dual exhaust, & an aluminum d'shaft was swapped in. I've also hard-wired a 1kW power inverter into the trunk and rebuilt the speedometer (140mph from a P71) so the odometer works again. It went about a year with a stripped gear, so exact mileage is unknown. Planned mods include '98-02 front suspension (for the brakes), 16" rims (to fit over the brakes), & paint.
Totalled 8-27-18 when a Freestyle whipped out in front of me (100% her fault, confirmed by the cops & insurance). |

Torx08CVP71m.jpg 140 hits | 68.34 KB | Posted: 2/28/21 This '08 P71's cruise buttons all test good at the PCM connector, and the SCDS is closed; but cruise still won't engage, including above 40mph. The owner's manual doesn't mention anything disabling cruise other than the OFF button, or driving under 3...

20190127_143110.jpg 430 hits | 89.3 KB | Posted: 1/27/19 It only took about an hour with the air hammer & slitting chisel to break the frame down into manageable chunks. I'll probably find something to do with the straight side rails, but the rest of the frame is going on the scrap trailer.
Split.jpg 433 hits | 80.34 KB | Posted: 1/10/19 The body is a little too heavy & long to flip off the frame like the '96 Bronco, so I slit it about in half.
PwrTrn.jpg 404 hits | 90.26 KB | Posted: 1/10/19 The blue dolly was on sale at TSC for $20, so I bought 2 (and later, 2 more). There's already another engine ('96 Bronco 5.8L) stored on the other one. The trans is going straight into the '98 MGM, so it's just resting on the purple dolly.
4.6L500lbs.jpg 427 hits | 82.28 KB | Posted: 1/10/19 First use of the new digital scale: weighing the '00 MGM engine (496#). It still has oil, and probably 1/4 of the coolant.

Mashed.jpg 392 hits | 93.58 KB | Posted: 1/10/19 After a quick glance, the adjuster agreed that it was totalled. I pointed out the upgrades, which he actually noted on the report, resulting in a settlement of about 5x what I figured it was worth, and I kept the car & title. Since I was not at fau...
