I've got an 89 fullsize w/302 efi and a t-18. The t-18 is getting a little hard to shift and the tranny shop said the synchro's were going out. I know I can rebuild this or find a newer one fairly easy but cost is an issue at this point. A buddy of mine has a c6 tranny thats good he's willing to part with CHEAP!! It's coming off a 302 motor that was in a car. The tranny was rebuilt last year and is in great shape. Will this fit? Will the tranny bolt up to the t-case or do I have to delete it for now. My thinking was to put this in for awhile and have the t-18 rebuilt, then swap back out later and sell c6? Will this work, or is it more trouble than it's worth?? Any opinions would be appriciated.
Note, the Bronco is my only transpertation right now so a quick fix is better than walking for me....thanks again------Fog

Go to the Engines and Drivetrains section of the Forums and veiw the responses I got to this question. There are quite a few replies, so maybe they will help ya. And if it was me I would just put the C-6 in the bronco and leave it til it stops working, they are a great transmission and very durable at that, just my opinion though.

ok, So if it will fit I should keep it...That sounds ok to me, I kinda like the idea of having an auto anyway....Does anyone know if I'll need to change driveshafts, tcase ect?? I just don't wanna start this and find out it won't work out right or ends up cost more than a rebuild....Any suggestions??? Thanks---Fog

a car c6 has a different tail(longer)you will have to find the short shaft and adapterfor your model year transfer case(not easy).then you will have to work out the linkage problem, maybe a floor shifter.the transmission has to be completetly torn down to install new mainshaft and adapter.assuming you want to do this and spend the money,it will start in any gear unless you wire a nuetral switch.now you might say"who cares about a nuetral switch"well, when it hurts someone you will care.i say forget the whole idea.i have done this in my shop and to do it right, its a PITA

Thanks for the all the advice...I priced out having the shafts swapped and it's gonna cost about the same as rebuilding my t-18 once you throw in a new flywheel, crossmember and floor shifter. Plus with the safety factor gearman mentioned, it's not worth it, I never even considered that, I was only looking at the price, free sounded good but now with the whole picture, I'll pass and just fix the t-18. Again thanks for the advice, especially gearman, even the guy who "knows" about these things local never mentioned that one!!!!-----Fog
