Hi im sure this question has been asked before I\\'m just having trouble finding it. I have a 2004 police interceptor and am planning on doing an engine swap along with a 5spd T45 manual swap. My question is which engine would give me the biggest bang for my buck? a 5.4L of a 4.6L 3V I know the 5.4 is a torque monster but i also want to be over the 300hp mark. thanks alot! |

Hey Jkandt86:
I agree...it is probably somewhere as a topic...do a search 1st.
Someone will probably follow up w/their personal experience and recommendations...good source...hang in there...it will come.
Do a google search and find some ot the big transmission shop/web retailers...
I don't know them all by name but one is something like Big Dog transmissions or
'Anything Transmissions'..etc Whole and parts distributors/web retailers...
Their support or sales depts. will have some great suggestion if you find a knowledgeable
person on the telephone...
Or stop by a '''''Good""" local transmission shop...ask them....smile with them and give
them complements on their shop...that goes a long way...
Our resident Louisianian specialist will be along to expand on my limited thoughts and suggestions... |

Do a Google search on "Modifying the 4.6L Ford engine" and you will be surprised at what you find.
The 5.4 does produce more torque at lower RPMs than the 4.6L The 3v 4.6L produces great horsepower at a higher RPM. But most 5.4 were built for the truck chassis (higher hood clearance). If you want HORSEPOWER, use a 3v 4.6L and add a supercharger. BIG HP in a hurry!
Go to different magazines, such as Hot Rod, Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, 5.0 Mustangs & Super Fast Fords, PLUS any Mustang forum. The source of information is endless.
An engine swap can get truly detailed. You almost need a donor car to do the swap corrrectly. Why? You will need a lot of odd and ends to get the stuff together. You will need the wiring and computer for the engine and transmission combo , plus the other odds and ends to get it to run properly. Going to a parts dealer can get EXPENSIVE real fast.
Go check out www.crownvic.net for a good detailed look at what is involved with a manual swap into a CV or GM.
Best bang for the buck? Get a new 5.0 modular and manual transmission and do that swap. That would give you a Super Police Interceptor.
NOTE: And although I am from Louisiana, I prefer to be called a Cajun to distinguish me from the people East of the Mississippi River.
