Just brought my tore up 93 Crown Vic home. This is my first rear wheel drive car and I really don't know much about it yet. Some parts on this poor car look like they have been sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic with the Titanic. The car still runs great, lots of rust but not too much on the body.
To get to the point, I removed the busted brake line that goes from the rear wheel to passenger wheel. I found the master cylinder to rear line has been replaced and was still in decent shape. The rubber fuels were still in good shape so now I know what doesn't need to be replaced.
Now for the fun part:
I found one line, completely deteriorated, about the same size of a brake line running front to back under the driver side. I don't know if this is an old brake line that was never completely, part of the fuel vent system, or possibly part of the e brake. I'm just not sure enough on this car yet to make a call.
I also found steel lines, about a 1/4" give or take, running front to back as well. Not sure if this care same with steel fuel lines and was replaced by rubber one or what. I'm not sure how many lines are suppose to be on this side going from front to back or vice versa. I know this car has had a fuel leak and a bad brake line at one point. I've just never heard of somebody replacing the old line but leaving them on the car with the new ones.
I appreciate any input anyone can give me on this one. I am breaking my rear wheel drive cherry on this one. Up to this point, all I have had is front wheel drive V6 or 4 cylinder front wheel drivers. Can wait to get the 4.6 up and running like she just came off the lot. While that may never happen, I still can wait to get this beast in the best form I can get her. |

Glad you decided to go with the CV. Did you get yourself a manual about it? Haynes or Chilton are both good manuals. You should have lines going from the front to the rear of the car for 1- fuel feed, 2- fuel return, 3-brake, and 4-vapor. You may have 2 vapor lines, but all are steel lines. Look for an illustration of the fuel line set up under the car.
Also, you may want to go to the Ford parts site (www.fordparts.com) to see a diagram of how some of the items connect to each other.
What you need to do is trace each line from front to back to see where the connect at. If a line was disconnected, it still should be NEAR where it connects at.
