I have a 2005 p71, and the original 4.6 is getting tired. I'm trying to find a big block motor swap or a bolt on supercharger i can add with a rebuild on the current motor? I havent been able to locate anything or anyone who has knowledge to this matter? Also looking for some suspension advice as far as upgrades or any other fun upgrades ffor this car... |

Go check out www.crownvic.net for motor swaps and other items. The best thing is using poly bushings on joints for the front end and rear. Try ADTR.net for parts.
But a stout rebuilt of the 4.6L will handle a charger. Look for D.S.S. (www.dssracing.com) or CHP (www.coasthigh.com) for a great build. Also, go check out the articles in 5.0 Mustang magazine (www.mustang50magazine.com) and Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords (www.musclemustangfastford.com) for ideas on the build if you decide to get it build locally. You should also subscribe to both these excellent magazines.
You really need forged pistons and rods (I-beam will work for normal charging) with a quality rebuild. If you are serious on power, I would recommend the Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads and the new StreetHeat intake manifold. Most people advise lowering the compression ratio, but the TF heads can handle this without detonation because of their design. With a supercharger or turbo, you could easily see 600HP on a conservative tune. Trust me, the money spent on a tune is well worth it. (Check out my quarter mile in my signature. All I can see is that the car was tuned.)
The 5.4L is a taller block and will be difficult to stuff under the hood, although it has been done. The 5.4 has more torque, which is what you need to move our heavy cars. A supercharger will help with the rwhp and torque on either engine. And a good tuned turbo system will really get it moving.
Trying to stuff a pushrod engine (Ford 302 or 351) is going backwards. The newer engines produce more HP period. If you really get ambitious, the new 5.0 with its 442HP will outdo any of the older engines.
