I have a 2003 Crown Vic P71 Runs really smoth in first and second gear but bucks badly in 3rd. If I kick it into passing gear or let it drop back to second, It's smooth again. I do not have a code reader and am not , by any means, a machanic. Would some know if it is an engine or a transmission problem? I would hate to take it to have the tranny rebuilt just to find out that it was an engine problem or visa versa. Any help would be appriciated. |

Ha! Love the sticker in the back window. I too have a 2003 and though I don't have this problem is sounds suspiciously like a tranny problem. Sounds like it's jumping from 2nd to 4th or doing some screwey overdrive thing.
I too am no mechanic and you'll probably get better responses from others but it sounds like tranny to me. |

It sounds like you have a bad ignition coil. |

If you are getting a CEL (Check Engine Light), you can go to Autozone or O'Reilly's or Advanced Auto and they will pull the codes for you at no cost. If no CEL, then I would look for a reputable mechanic to look at my car.
