Aly and Krage's 1962 Mercury Meteor 4 door sedan. (im waiting on the website to add my model to the list.)
The number one key owner of the Mercury. i am simply the mechanic and driver.
On the way to vegas. i think this is before one of sheriff Joe's finest pulled me over for impeding traffic...just he and I. the truth is, as he told it, is that as he started to pass me he saw the beenie and the very large can and thought i was drinking and driving. We all laughed it off and my bride to be and i went on our merry way.
The supposed contraband that got me pulled over.
its hard to see but there is a bird living in our Meteor. I couldnt get him out so we loaded up the car and took a drive. When we got out of the store he was back on the dash.
One day my boss called and said i had to come in ASAP. There was just no way out of it. But just as i was getting off the freeway i suddenly could smell antifreeze and then the squeeling and then the metal to metal. So i turned the engine off and coasted onto the shoulder.
the trail..while waiting for my wife to come get me i pushed the car a few more feet to a more level area and then removed the radiator. The pump came apart and the fan hit the radiator; there were ballbearings all over the place.
Thanks to my supervisor..he gave me a hitch saving me over a hundred bucks for towing expenses. Thx acosta!
This is where all the bearings came from.
Well i purchased a new pump and had the rad rebuilt
The altenator is ok but im sure ill need a new one..SOON
i forgot to take a pic of the rad before i put it back but if u look close you can see some of the half moon path the fan carved in the rad. when i open the hood on the freeway there was a fan of water/antifreeze shooting out all over the place.

A view of the the trunk. awww life is good!
the gas tank is now leaking so i pulled it out. I figured it was the filler neck hose but in order to change it i had to drop the whole tank...of course.
Well i removed the neck and i could hear something rolling around inside the tank. I figured that something had fallen off the sender so i opened it up.
it appears the previous owners had broken the cap off and some of it fell into the tank and there it remained until i came along. Well come monday im taking it in to get a pressure check and cleaning then back in it goes.
my kids critters on my car.....err umm my wifes car... everyone wants a ride.
ok this is totally rat rod couture. We have no visors; since we live in hells front yard a shade screen is essential but i had no way to get it to stay up; then the light went off and out came the clothes pins
i finally got it back. I had Doug's Radiator Repair in Chandler Arizona check for leaks and clean it up. Im spraying it with rubberized under coating made by Duplicolor. i also picked up a new brass plug from ACE harderware and a hose from NAPA. I tried Checker but the first one told me they dont carry hose over 1 5/8 so i went to another and they recommended NAPA as they carry hose by the foot.

the old steering rag. What a mess
i had to grind down the old rivets and punch them out. Thank goodness for air grinders.
this brass band helps with the lights and signals.
With the new hardware on the new rag the old and new fasteners had no clearence so i went toACE hardware and purchased some allen head bolts and it was still a tight fit. Although the access to this bolt was much easier.
This project was a pretty involved detail in compareson to the end results. quite a learning expierence. This was the wheel that had been on since we purchased the meteor...and im happy to see it go.
the original wheel. I have quite a bit of work ahead of me. There is alot of play so i need a new rag joint. The replacement...well repair kit i got at Autozone was..well less than desirable...ok ok it sucked ass.
