On 2002 Lincoln Town Car [ 4.6 ] with 64,500
Has issues with ignition lock cylinder not being fully seated, that would not allow
the key position to move to \\" Run \\" or \\" Start \\"
If I place the key in the cylinder and lightly tap on the top end of the key...this seems to help \\" SEAT \\"
the key to the bottom of the cylinder....then the key will operate as intended.
Now, the transmision Park position will NOT MOVE or allow to shift to any other position.
If I wait about 10 seconds, sometimes it seems that the computer processing \\" release \\" will then
allow a \\" shift \\".
Sometimes [ random ]....nothing [ time delays, steering wheel jiggles or motor re-starts ] will do nothing to release the transmission \\" PARK \\" position release.
Any suggestions...?
Possible transmission \\" shift sensor(s) \\" or relay....?
Check all of the linkages that connect from the steering column to the transmission as sometimes they will bind due to road grime/corrosion. I had similar problem on a 2001 CVPI and didn't find solution intil it broke and was repaired at dealership. You can try using white lubriplate. Hope this helps.
