fabricated bracket slides down into the foam between the plastic and outer vinyl. i missed a pic that shows the assy, first a push-nut and washer holds the plastic stud to the door panel, then the bracket slides down & in and another push-nut retains...

all covered in RTV additional strength to help make everything one piece, to share load. RTV is also down into the foam and between all layers of the bracket assy to add assy strength

looks like the pinion is seized minimum... cruisin along ~50 mph & the rear end locks up, back tires start bouncin down the road, fishtailin to the shoulder... & she comes to rest 1/2 on / off the road, all done

i was afraid that the adhesive that comes with the foams might not stick to the plastic parts, and the foams got a little weird from the Loctite product so i 'pre-buttered' the plastic surfaces so the foams wouldn't be ruined and the supplied adhesiv...

back side foams both installed with the ring sandwiched in the middle. torn silver stuff is decorative, used to be on the front but i decided it wasn't worth the risk to try to clean it off any further... i just turned it to the back side

top: the original Z3 mirror started dropping pieces of the ball socket lock ring onto the console and the effort to adjust the mirror became much easier, i knew it wouldn't be long until it let go completely
dealer price $273.xx including tax !

a closer shot of the different mount styles. with a small soaked towel as a heat sink on the outside of the glass, i used a triple jet lighter to gently warm up the mount pellet on the inside. it let go after the glue started to smoke a bit

the Ford mirror has more adjustability and is able to be raised up higher than the original, eliminating the notorious Z3 blind spot behind the rear view
