Before Shot.. Raised the carpet (later i cut it out..)
Cut the hole. Front to back i cut between the braces on the frame. Side to side i cut the width of the tank plus 3 inches to each side. You can cut less without a problem.
Test fit the tank to see what you need to trim. I had to remove about 1/4" from the lip of the rear brace. .
new skidplate.. 3/16" thick...
So much clearance now.. (I redid the exhaust later)
Started the cover.. I made it a bit high but it wasnt a big deal for me.
Has 2 access areas.. One for the the fuel hose and one for the fuel pump.
Covers will be bolted on. Easy to remove
Access to the fuel pump.. Lots of room to remove it without dropping the tank.
box completed.. welding it on.
Bought this recessed fuel filler from an online race shop.
Used a 4-1/4" diameter hole saw to cut into the side for the recessed fuel filler
Had to go through 2 layers.
bolted on with supplied G8 bolts and nuts. You will lose some skin bolting this thing up..
It came up that the California Smog places would check for proper fuel filler so i decided to use the old one. I cut the metal outer hose since it wasnt at the right angle.
used another holesaw to remove the filler neck and slipped on the stock bronco filler. used 3 self tapping screws to hold it on.
view from the back. The fuel goes through the black hose into the tank and the air and fumes escape through the outer tube (missing).
Used some rubber straps to hold the tank down and some rubber under the tank to seperate it from the skid.
painted and ready for final assembly
Got this fuel hose from www.FuelSafe.com .. connected it to the filler with a hose clamp and to the tank with a hose clamp.
Bolted the fuel pump cover on. slid on the cover for the fuel hose and its done.
DONE.. Tested and it works.. Fills up easy. Im removing the paint on the hose little by little..
