I cut some 3/8 plywood to fit between the back of the front seats and little ledge in front of the back seat. i then added 3 hinges, and carpeted it to match the stock (though dirty) carpeting.
i learned the hard way that the hing needs to be right on the edge to allow the shelf to fold up. It still has some clearance probs, but this is going to cover my amps and an inverter, so I dont need to get to it very often.

top of the shelf carpeted. i had to clearance the shelf a little more on the drivers side.

I took some time and made sure that the hinges, when mounted, would leave the shlef as level with the rear floor board as possible, to "fake" any would be teives from thinking this wasnt a stock configuration
this is the amount of gap I required, and it could actually be made a little larger or the joint moved up some for better access. As it is, I can only flip up the lid to about 80 degrees
I made a deck, that will hold both amps (when I am done) on one side, and secured the shelf supports to the deck. the deck is secured to the floor board. On the passenger side, i just screwed the support to the lid
the screws holding the support are barely noticeable with the carpeting
should be enough clearance to keep the amps and inverter (once installed) cool.

The shelf in, with the rear carpeting on top of the seam, instead of down the ledge, and the carpeted fllor mat I have. You can barely tell the shelf is there.

Full shelf without the sub. Should fake out would be's
I was going to use this sub box, but its a little big, so i will have to find/make a smaller one.

I was also going to cut section from the tape towards the back, and then use carpeted wood in its place. there was going to be a drop down door with cabinet locks at the top, and hinges at the bottom. BUT, my D60 outer, shortside inner, and steering shaft fit in there fine

I welded some angle iron on to my swing away to mount some axleshafts etc.
these are mounts I sourced through work. Lots of fire depts use these to mount assorted tools.

They can hold axle shafts, my 8 pound sledge, and hi lifts with ease. Im assured that sun and weather will not harm them anymore than they would tires on your car. Only time will tell.

Here is how my tire carrier looks. the old 5 on 5.5 tire carrier has been changed to 8 on 6.5, and now carriers my spare spindle and hub, and the D60 long side and both sterling shafts can be carried. or shovels, sledges, whatever.
