The old cowl allows leaves and large junk to fall in the holes and down into the heatorbox and vent. thes molds and dry out and cause rust/rot and bad smell in the ventalation system. so i decided to upgrade to the newer multi-hole cowl. I like the look. i was told this was a direct bolt on. i found there is different cowls after i started. i could have left the one i made but the correct one would have been a direct bolt on and missing the 2 newer washer heads.

with a few screws and removing the washer hose the old cowl was off.

you can see all the crap that falls thru the slots. this is just the top side too.

Here is another pic of under the stock cowl.

A co-FSB member gave me this cowl. it got dual washer heads and no slots. so i washed it and hit it with flat black

here is the stock 1983 and the 1992 cowl. i was in such a hurry i did not see th body shape difference. the ends were different and did not allow the hood to close and had a bad look.

Well i had all the parts i needed. so after looking a few times at what was different i found it was just th ends. I just cut the ends off. here are the stock cowl ends

Afte many measurements i just pop riveted the ends on.

A few more rivets and the drivers side was done. i hit another coat of flat black to blend in the patch.

Here is the pass side. i did the same cut-measure-rivet-paint trick here.
well it fits good now. here is the shot from the center.

Here is the pass side. it looks better than the stock slotted cowl. the patch looks ok
I not sure what happened but the drivers side had a gap, but it works for a trail truck/driver truck.
here is a side shot. it turned out just ok since the gap was bigger than i liked.

well it got the best of me. i done a few trips to the junk yard for other parts and i kept seening the correct cowl. well i broke down and bought the right one off a 1989 F150. there was alot of these out in the yards. one issue was they only had 1 washer again.

well it got the best of me again since the dual washer worked so much better. i decided to cut them in and have 3 washers. this should help slide the mud off the windows. i cut out the washer squares and pop-riveted them in the cut outs i made in the 1989 cowl.
