the top looks like a great place to install the Aux guages. it is wasted space on this bronco.
you can see all the unused space behind the bezel. all this is is a second harness cover. you can see the bundle in the upper right.

i wanted these to look factory. so i looked and fount the space on the top of the radio was wasted space. i did not plan to run the radio speaker in the top center and all i need to make was a mount and and trim some plastic.

these were bought from Harbor Frieght for $6. amp/water temp/oil pressure. not too bad of a set.
This is the back of the Harbor Frieght guage set. simple connections and easy to follow instructions.
if you knew where you were going and did not install and remove the guages a few times these are good guages. i bent the water temp probe 1 too many times and it broke. I went to the auto parts store and got a set od Sun Pro guages for $20. same connections
This is the back side of the aftermarket guages. I got this set from Pep Boys $20. The connections are easy. the lights need a ground and a panel hot ( i used the ashtray light wire. the water is a probe that goes into the water jacket and the oil on the pressure line and the volts to a POS battery connection.

i wanted simple and easy to make and install. this adapter mounts to the factory top speaker mounts. i made it angled to read easier in the driver seat. this is 1/8X1" flat stock i had in the shop.
I coated it with some paint and it is ready to install.
one last angle ---still waiting for the paint to dry.....lol
the dash was beat up bad in this bronco. i added a few nuts as spacers and used the factory speaker mount holes to install the mount.
here is a lower view. i trimed out the plastic (if you do this watch the main wire harness across the top back side of the plastic dashit is in a sleave but you can cut thru it without knowing. (On some broncos this is a clock, mine was wasted space). my dash was broken in a few places and i made patches as seen top left. just sheet metal front and one on the back riveted together with the broken dash in the middle.
this was setting up the next step. the guages are just in place not completly installed. i wanted to see how level it looked and run the needed wires and tubes. you can see this dash was beatup. (i was installing a 1987 ac systen to replace the mess that was there this is in the other folder).

Here is the stock bezel before i started.
Here is the stock bezel. i am not too worried about chopping it up as you can see the PO did to install a radio. this is the front. I will cut to fit the top section of the bezel.
I going to remove almost all the top box.
All i had to do the the bezel was trim out the top portion. this one was damaged anyway.
I had to trim the radio bezle (i going to get a new one and redo i think still not sure. this works.
this is lookin up from the floor. i mad a sheet metal cover for the guages. you would normally see the bottom of the guages and the back of the wires and connections.
Here is another view of the install
this looks good and is easy to read.
this is the view from the driver seat.

this is the SunPros from the pas side floor.
To hide or trim out the guages i took a piecs of sheet metal and bent and cut it to fit the pod. i revited it to the mount.
Here is the trim on the guagesas seen from the back.

Here is another view of the trim panel.

Water temp sending Unit.jpg | Hits: 408 | Size: 92.16 KB | Posted on: 10/18/06 | Link to this image
to install the water temp probe i just removed the stock sending unit and added a couple nipples and a tee and an adapter. i put the stock sending unit on the side of the tee (i hate dead guages) and the new probe on the end. i used some tefflon tape on the threads and had no issues.
