here is the new skid plate. i got it withthe efi tank.
this is a 33 gallon 3 1/2" top tank. this has the single high pressure pump and sending unit inside.
here is the other side. time to clean and install it.
here is the tank after it was cleaned and undercoated on the bottom. there is a coat of flat black over the under coat.
hereis another view of the bottom of the tank almost ready to go in.
here is the last shot of the bottom untill it gets installed.
i decided to make sure the inside was good and clean. here is the inside before i cleaned it out. not too bad of shape.
here is the pass side inside the tank.
inside tank drivers side.
after disconnecting the fuel line, filler neck, vent line and the sending unit wires i emptied the gas tank or as much as i could. i then removed the 8 bolts that hold the skid plate and fuel tank and dropped the fuel tank and skid plate. these are now looking for a new home.
i washed the area where the tank was. i then hit it with flat black.
here is another shot of no tank.
these are the old fuel lines. i going to pull them out and swap in the new EFI lines soon.
this is the hole where the fuel tank was. i need to clean it up and hit it with some paint.
here is the top straps that sandwhich the tank into its place.
this is the pass side vent line to the charcole can under the hood. i going to swap it out for the newer larger one off the F150.
here is the old tank and skid.
here is another view of the tank and skid plate.
here is the last shot of the old tank and skid plate.
here is the stock 83 carb fuel tank.
this view shows the small neck and sending unit holes of the non-EFI fuel tank.
i wanted to have a way to get the dirt out from under the tank. i had this chunk of bed liner on the side yard. this will add 1-1 1/2"s to the height of the tank. but it will keep the metal to metal contact gone.
now it is all going back together, i put 2 bolts on the back side of the gas tank to hold the skid plate.
i put the bed liner on the bottom of the skid plate..
i then put the gas tank in the skid plate on the bed liner.
i forgot the top straps were adjustable so i got longer bolts first. i will trim them down some soon. here is the tank all tighened in place.
here is the pass side bottom of the tank and skid.
here is the pass side tank top.
here s the drivers side tank bottom.
here is where the filler neck goes..
you can see the fuel line connection point. i got to run the lines and power next. i stll got to remove the old fuel and vapor lines.
the filler neck was next since the newer version has a screw in cap not twist on. and there is a filler tube that goes down in the tank to allower easier filling.. I got a 3" body lift and the stock hose is streach alittle. so i spliced 2 hoses together and made one good new filler hose. you can see the patch at the tank. i chopped one filler neck steel tube and stuck it between both hoses on the inside it is 4" long and only air travels thru the outside larger hose. i did not modify the inside solid hose.
here is another shot of the filler hose.
here is the new filler neck. some how i broke the screw in cap , so i get a new one soon.
the EFI uses a larger 3/8 Evap line. here is the 1/8" line in the stock location. it runs in 2 pieces from the fuel tank to the Charcole canister in the engine compartment.
Here is the charcole can side of the system after it was replaced. i get a better picture after i install the rubber line.
here is the stock 1983 carb line next to the the EFI line off a 1994 Bronco.
here is a better shot of the size difference of the 2 lines.
this is the stock clip that holds the line to the frame. I needed the newer larger size line clips but i could not find them anywhere on the net or in the dealerships or from doreman.
Here is a side view of the stock clip it fits in a hole in the frame and then the pin spreads the clip open and holds the line to the frame.
after looking around at options i decieded some 3/8 hose clips and 1/4 rivets would do the job just fine.
Here is the new line in the front wheel well to the Charcole can can.
Here is the new line running down the frame sorr it was dark but the rubber loop it the tie in to the rear hard line on the inside of the frame.
here is the rear hard line to the rubber line that connects to the fuel tank.
here is another view of the hard line and the new EFI fuel lines. I put a clip at each place a stock clip were.
it is hard to see the main line but it runs inside the frame rail behind the shock and pokes out a hole in the frame and connects to the front hard line with a slice of fuel line.
