View showing the newly installed ported vacuum switch. The old one was broken and had no tubes connected. Heat from the hot water causes the switch to remove the carb vacuum hose and connect the manifold vacuum one, which is greater, and is fed to the distributor's vacuum advance canister, thereby raising the engine rpm. This was done primarily for cars with AC, that got extra hot while idling on a hot day, with the AC load on the engine, thereby automatically raising the engine rpm. Since this car doesn't have AC, it is probably unnecessary for the most part.
