Cutting off the hoses (carefully) revealed the factory socketless hose barbs used for the fuel rail crossover tubes.

The factory tubes are actually plastic and coated with a rubber or vinyl like material.

Seatback Retainer Rod
This is the other reason the pad can't be left attached to the cover - the top ends of the U slip under the lip of the seatback frame, so this must be removed before the pad.

To gain more access, I removed the glove box by removing it's three screws. Pictures here, is a socket with an extension, removing the black screws.
