Where the heck do all the different piping conections to the turbo assembly do / go to. From what I understand about turbo's they use the exhaust pressure to turn a tubine that forces more air into the engine. I just cannot figure out beyond the exaust going in and out how the heck the whole thing works. I am asuming the intercooler is connected in there somehow. Is there any website that gives good pic's and a general run down on how this system works. Inquiring minds want to know.

That is a great site, but I still have a question. When you look at the turbo while standing in front of the vehicle there are two large lines that come off of it and run up to the radiator area, are these the intercooler lines? If so, which way does the air flow through them. The reason i am asking is I was standing on the pasanger side of the vehicle and was looking at the front of the turbo where it connects to the engine. It was a little dirty, sort of oily, and had what looked like a crack running front to back on that side a inch or so up from where it mounted to the engine. I wiped it with my finger and seemed to be just a line of dirt. I just want to make sure there is no oil or other fluid on the other side at that point since a boost leak will just hinder performance, but a oil leak is a different story.

Yes the two tubes running to and from the intercooler are just that,the right side is going to the intercooler from the turbocharger and the left side into the Y manifold(with 2 lower orange boots) which then goes into the intake.

The messy,unsightly oily mess you see is from the crankcase oil vapors being introduced into the fresh air flow system which is the way it was designed by Ford and Navistar to meet EPA air quality standards.

There is an article on the CCV modification but the photos havet to be updated by admin,check my photo album for them in the meantime

You may have a leaking CAC hose like me. This is creating oil residue all over the CAC hose and generally on the left-hand side of the engine compartment. I'll be replacing this in the next few weeks...just ordered the new hose/part and will document the repair. Might also tackle the CCV mod at the same time as well. YEE-HAW!

I will take some additional pics while I'm under the hood to see if we can't get a better illustration of how the intercooler fits into the equation.

Thanks for updating the photos in the article Eric

I have some additional photos I'll add to the album when the wife pulled the intercooler out as part of the CCV mod

TBAR is hooking me up with a length of 4" exhaust tubing to eliminate the CCV fume collector,I'll have pics of that added as well

Yes thanks for putting the pic's back up for the CCV mod. I was looking at it the other day and was hoping the pic's would be corrected soon.

It's good to know that the oil is there by design (or lack there of depending how you look at it) and not something worse. I think I will tackle all my other mods first before I hit the CCV one. I will have to look at the pic's since it might be something I can tackle at the same time I am doing exhaust.
