Okay, I don't work for Infinity but I will sound as if I do. I purchased 6, Infinity KAPPA 572.5CF 5" x 7" / 6" x 8" speakers for my Excursion and I can't get over how good they sound! If you care about music at all, you've got to get these speakers! I am using the factory CD player and amplification and I am floored! I had thought that the Bilstein shocks were the best investment that I had made for the X but I think the ride is more improved with the new speakers...

No problems at all. They sound really good. I'm 44 and never really cared about car audio all that much (have spent pleanty on audio equipment for the home though) but this is a huge improvement. When I was a teenager, car audio was pretty sad. I am going to look into a sub of some sort. Anyone got any ideas on the best way to go about adding a little more bass? Bazooka bass tube etc.?
Thanks,
Roger |

Eric,
How tough is it to get the subs in the back doors? Did you do it yourself or have it done?
Thanks,
Roger |

Roger,
I had it done but would do it again on my own if I had to do it again considering the poor quality of the install. The installer should have mounted the sub to a piece of wood that would attach to the door. Instead, they decided that simply reinforcing the door and door panel with dynomat and using a type of caulk to seal the door panel to the door would be the best solution. After 4+ years of opening and closing the door, the seal has broke loose and the retaining clips for the door panel have slowly come loose or have broken due to the weight of the sub. I'll be making a better speaker mount for the rear door this spring/summer and will of course document how to do it.
It is a great space saver...not that space is at a premium in the X but there are those times where it's nice not to have to fold seats down to make room for things. A big sub enclosure would get in the way for me, especially with our German Shepherd.

Eric,
Thanks for the information. Do you have any information you could provide me with to get me headed in the direction of doing the install?
1) Which subs would you recommend?
2) Do I need a sealed enclosure or is the airspace not that important.
I really don't know what to ask to be honest.
Is there anyone else that has installed subs in the back doors?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Roger

Roger,
Sub type is not that important. looking for one that takes a little enclosure is.
There are many to choose from and with a little for info i'll point out some that i've had great luck with.
1. What kind of sound are you looking for, big boom rock the house or just to add a little more low end to the truck.
2. What kind of power are you thinking? are you adding the front/rear speakers to an amp as well or do you just need to power the sub.
3. what would you like to do down the road. would you be looking into Video for movies or is there any upgrades you would like to do later.

Roger,
I changed out all my speakers to the highest end Kenwoods KFC-X688C, insulated everything I could with Hushmat. I then placed an Omega 10 in powered subwoofer in the back. I can quick disconnect to get the extra cargo room if needed. Great investment!! |
