The issue was the depth of this surface. The Ranger one placed it too far away from the pulley while the Mustang one but it right up into the pulley, defeating the clutch

Great shot of me, huh? I cut 10" off the rear frame. Note the factory rear xmember has been moved forward (it's cheesy but I don't have time to build another), and I tacked angle the frame to keep it from spreading while moving the xmember.
