Hello-

I have a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6 V8 Of course.. It has given Me Zero Problems Since New, always maintained oil chagned on time Etc.

I recently Completed an Oil Change; I used My normal Castrol GTx High Mileage 5-30 .
I also added some Lucas Oil Stabilizer New car Full Sythenic Formula, I usually use the Motorcraft Oil filter, but this Time I used a More expensive Fram Tough Guard 6x Filter, as it was Free with the Oil.

It has been about 150 Miles Since the Oil change... No problems Runs Great.

Until about an Hour ago I started the Car up in the driveway and moved it up about 10 ft. and noticed a slight Tick or Knock, This is VERY Slight and most people would not notice, but this is my car and notice everything.
It is very Slight and you can notice it at Idle, and when you Rev it up you can hear it a little as well..

I am worried about this, can be the start of something bad... What happened. it is Not bad but I want to address this ASAP.

Should I remove the Oil ASAP, And Run without the Lucas Or what?
What Can I do Before it gets worse or preogresses???

Please Help Thanks!

FIRST, you need to see what's ticking. Is it a valve? Is it the EGR sticking? Is it a rod?

Depending on the mileage ad how hard it was driven, there are lots of parts that wear out eventually on all vehicles. The Lucas may have lubricated the part enough where you start hearing it beginning to fail. Or it could be a part that was going to fail, and it is just coincidental that you added the Lucas now.

Until you determine WHAT is ticking, or at least specifically WHERE, removing or changing the oil won't help. Use some basic troubleshooting to determine what the problem is.

And some noises, while very upsetting, can be considered normal for the mileage and abuse of a vehicle.

So does anyone think that the Lucas could possibly Be bad or Hurt this engine in Anyway?

Should it Be removed, and Clean REgular oil be ran?
Or should it Be removed and replaced with, the Thicker Older Mileage Stabilizer Lucas for worn engines?

removing the oil wil not help just listen where the tick is coming from... high? low? could be lifter tap or rod knock.

FYI stick with fomoco filter, frams don't have a anti-bleed back spring and high milage ford/gen motors will knock when started just like when you change the oil and there's no pressure in the system. All factory filters are superior to aftermarket filters. Have an 03 cv sport, 150K miles and 99 town car 235K miles and they love the ford filters, can't hear them when they start.

pop the hood......with engine running at idle....place finger on all 8 coil-on-plugs.....if you feel vibration
check / retorque sparkplug/s......these alluminum heads have been known to spit sparkplugs between
30 k and 2oo k miles for a multiple of reasons......plug may be moving/rattling in head.....?
