I have a 1999 Ford CVP P71 that died while driving down the road. The starter cranks like normal but the car wouldn\\'t start. On closer inspection all the fuses and relays both under the hood and the dash are good, But there are two brown wires in the ignition switch wire harness that do not have power in any key position but when I jumper them to a \\"live\\" wire the car starts and runs like normal except when I turn the key off the car keeps running until i pull out the jumper. Any Ideas would be great thanks.

Sounds like you are @the point of the issue....

Are the two brown wires part of the ignition switch...?

Is there any indication where these two brown wired trace to/from that is replaceable...?

Have you checked the OBD2 codes...?

If you do not have a Chilton or Haynes manual to look at the wiring diagram, try this link: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=147239

I haven't looked at the 1999 version, but I suspect that you have a bad ignition switch. You said you put a hot wire to the 2 brown wires in the switch. That is what leads me to believe the switch itself is bad. I'm not talking about the ignition lock that your key fits in, but the actual contact switch in the column. Hope this helps.

STOCK?? I bet it was modified.

13.26 @ 107.24 MPH 1/4 mi w/ me, tools, & full tank of 93 octane

I added CAI, NICHE 19 X 8.5 " wheels with 245/45ZR 19 rubbers, and completely rebuilt the front end with poly bushings, Kooks headers, 2 1/4inch exhaust, TCI 2200-2400 rpm Stall converter

.PLANS:: engine upgrade, 5.4L 2v stroker, rebuild interior in leather w/ buckets, thinking about turbos
