After pulling the LHF suspension off, I found the steering knuckle bent through the upper caliper bolt hole. The torsion key pad
isolator (6L5Z5b335AA) is degraded to the point of crumbling when the key was removed. It's not available separately from the ~$40 pad, so I may make one from a polyurethane sheet.
