Unfortunately, the battery light is still on. The Haynes manual I just purchased doesn't go into much detail on what could cause the battery light to go on and/or stay on.

Outside of putting the code scanner on it I couldn't find anything in the service manual

first time posting , i put in the yellow top about 10 months ago they are great but just now my light is coming on at idle. when you rev up to app. 2000 rpm it goes out but comes back on at idle again that was 2 days ago ,yesterday started hearing a loud knock from under hood upon investigation "the old broomstick trick" it sounds like it is coming from the alt. now this am x would not start . going to put a new alt. on today and charge battery. has anyone heard of this.

Having just went through replacing my batteries and alternator, it sounds like your alternator is dead. It was most likely not putting out enough voltage at idle to keep the batteries charged, which is why the battery light went on. When you'd rev it, it would increase the output back to an acceptible range, and the battery light would go off.

Here's an install article on replacing the alternator. Pretty easy to do.

Let us know how it works out.

Oh yeah, welcome to the club!!

Anything's possible if it's bad. There are moving parts, so it doesn't surprise me. I've only heard grinding sounds.

as far as your light goes i think i heard somwhere about " resetting " it by connecting and disconnecting the ground cable 3 or 4 times and then letting it set 20 min. before hooking the ground cable back up?

I had one make a continuous low-RPM sound (bearings failed from a too-tight fanbelt ... no, it wasn't on the X), and it was replaced under warranty. But a knocking sound? Makes me wonder if the casing has cracked.
