This is the last LeMans engine program that I worked on while I was with Ford Research & Engr. It was designed to be used in the '68 GT40 effort. It was called the 427 Calliope engine but it was not based on the FE block or family. 3 complete engines were built and tested (although Ford PR admits to only 2). Because of problems with the sliding throttle plate (among other things), the engine was not controllable at part throttle and was deemed unsafe. FIA did Ford a favor by going to a 3 Liter rule thereby disallowing this hand grenade. Beautiful engineering except for the intake application.
