Does anyone know Bill from the old 4x4 shop in BR? I have some work that I need done, and know he can do good work for cheap. Looks like I need the rear end re-sealed, the engine checked for it's oil leak, and my transfer case or transmission for the same. If anyone knows anything, let me know. |

We can check for leaks easy... fixing em a lil different You might want to pressure wash where ever its nasty, then drive around and look to see where it's coming from, or we can look for ya
Probably just the axleshaft/tube seal on the rear...

Well me and my friend looked at it today. Didn't look at the engine, but it's leaking from somewhere. But we did look at the transfer case and rear axle. My friend was saying it looks like the front seal on the front output shaft is leaking. But when we checked the fluid, he said it had more than it should. It was oozing out of the plug hole. He said it should be just below the hole. And with my rear end, it looks like both sides are leaking, and possibly the front seal on the pumpkin is leaking.
My roommate just brought up the point that because I haven't been driving it, all the components haven't been heated up like they would with normal driving. This could affect the seals as they could have contracted enough to leak. I was wondering what y'all thought about that? Should I drive the hell out of it and see if the leaks are still present?
I just kinda don't know what to do. Vic at Fisher's did all my work since I have gotten Hoss. Then, after I rolled it, he "supposedly" checked everything. I wanted EVERYTHING checked b/c I had just spent so much money with him; I spent even more money to guarantee everything was ok. I again brought it to him after I got it from the body shop b/c I saw the rear was leaking. He said it was fine. Granted I did roll it, but twice he said all the work he did was good. Should I expect him to warranty it? The rear end was completely rebuilt with the original work-and now it's leaking.
I'm torn on what do to, and wanted y'alls input. Most of y'all have said for me to just do the work myself, but I simply can't. My back and lack of knowhow hinder me from doing much. I value y'alls input and appreciate your suggestions. |

cork gaskets will leak if they sit to long, your rear axle does sit at an akward angle, you should try to fix that before you make any long road trips so you dont over heat the rear end. actual seals should not leak from sitting. i dont remember what the exact measurement is but 1 quart of fluid on the ground will cover about a 12ft area so if you dont have a huge stain in your driveway then the leak is not bad enough to not drive the truck. just keep an eye on fluid levels and go about your buisness. now when you go off road remember any where fluid can leak out water can get in so try not to sit in standing water and you will be fine. if all the leaks are slow leaks then just fix them as time and money permits

I think we could tackle a the TC case front seal, the rear pinion seal ( I think that's what you're getting at) and the axletube seals in a day. But if you paid the guy to completely rebuild the rear end he should have replace the tube & pinion seals. You need to find out exactly what he replaced... and get him to resolve the situation.

If one quart comes out to 12 sq ft, I'm good. The leaks from the T-case and engine are only minimal then, maybe one or two sq ft. That is a little reassuring I suppose then. I guess you're right Patrick, I'll try and call him today. |
