Saturday I get a call to go pull someone out. Of course I was pumped because I have never gotten that call before. The guy is in St. Francisville by Thompson's Creek. Hoss is at my friend's house in Dutchtown, so I go pick it up and head out. Get there and assess the situation, needless to say pulling him out was a breeze. On the way back home, Hoss starts sputtering when I would get to about 55mph. My roommate suggests that it could be running too rich from the smell of the exhaust. We pull over and he adjusts my carb and it seems to fix the problem. The only problem is when I come to a stop in gear, it's a little to lean. We caught the rain, so we figured once we got closer to Dutchtown, when I got some more gas he'd adjust the carb again. As I was getting gas I left it running. When I was done we popped the hood and I got in the cab to put it in drive so he could adjust my carb. At some point through all that the engine cut off. I tried to restart it and it wouldn't. Engine wasn't turning over or anything. We try bypassing the solenoid (about the only thing I know how to do, long story) and nothing. Call my friend whose house Hoss sleeps at and he brings jumper cables. Try jumping it. It will now turn over but won't start. First thing I can assume is that the alt is bad. But the perplexing part is that its getting fuel, but evidently no spark. I think this is the straw that broke my back. I'm teetering getting it up and running, then put it on Ebay. Take what I get and get an old F350 and put it on 44"s. I know I whine about it alot, but I just felt like sharing what I was thinking.

Any time you start messing with an old truck, lifting it etc, it's gonna have some problems every now and then. If you sell it and get something else you might be trading one problem for another (or several)....

If you do end up selling it, I don't hink you'll get as much off ebay as you would selling it locally.

If you do end up selling it maybe you should get something you can put a mild lift on and reasonable tires, and look for something that is EFI.

it sound to me like all you may have is a simple ignition problem, why sell the truck and get another one where you have have more problems?

I'm just kind of at the point now that I don't know if I've got more working for me or against me. Sometimes I think starting fresh would just make things easier, I wouldn't be fixing someone else's oversights.

well after burning my 3rd coil out on my truck i decided to go diesel. a cummins has no glow plugs. if it can pump fuel, squirt fuel and turn over it will run. plus i too get very disgruntled when the damn things get finiky. i say keep it and work through it.

I appreciate the vote of confidence. Nothing is set in stone, just talking out of my ass mainly. I tend to be pessimistic about things, espicially when things go wrong. Does anyone know any mechanics who do side work?
