Alrighty....

Looks like lines from a 92 K30 will give me a little more room to flex. I should have the ball joints, calipers, pads & lines tomorrow. Still gonna throw a turn on the rotors if they need it .....

SO all I'm really waiting on is to get the knuckles & hubs from Carlito....

Patrick, decision for you to make.

1) Start working on getting that blasted roll pin out of the carrier on your 30 without pulling the carrier. Then the actual swap of the spiders takes all of 20 minutes.

2) We can pull the carrier....which requires some care but can be done without messing up your gear setup....we're not changing anything with the ring gear or how its attached to the carrier....so if we mark the ring and pinion and put it in exactly as we took it out, it will be fine. The spiders/side gears are in the carrier, so they do not effect the setup of your ring and pinion.

I will come by at lunch to give the knuckle a look at.......we can decide the appropriate course of action at that time.....most likely #2.....that roll pin is a bitch to get out.

3) Yes, option 3.......if you go with option 2, you may want to pick up a Lockrite for a Dana 30. Since you have to pull the carrier out to install one with gears higher than 3.73, why not do this once and not worry about having to replace your spiders again.....still cheaper than your original thought of maybe having to drop 600ish on a new axle. Plus, you'll be locked....lockrite installs aren't much harder than the spiders.

I was talking to Midget and he said you can get that roll pin out with a small punch.....I was using a screw driver when I did Matts....not fun.

Consider the lockrite, though........If you are like me, evertime you haul ass up something, you'll be thinking spiders.....can't wait to swap in my 8.8

I don't have a punch..... we definitely noticed the roll pin and that does look like a bitch to get out. If it is easier/faster then maybe we can just pull the carrier and mark it like you said.....

I don't really want to drive around on a front locker unless I have the warn hub conversion or it is a selectable locker. I don't mind hashing spiders and would rather spend the money on a roll cage right now .... but we'll see..... maybe I'll be able to find one really cheap....

Got your messages this morning......battery was recharging on the cell......anyway, GOOD JOB, laughed my ass off when I got the second message.

FOr future reference....the roll pin goes out ring side to carrier side and goes in carrier side to ring side.

or

For the front axle....goes out passenger side to driver side, goes in driver side to passenger side.

I'll call ya later today.
