C-6 I believe. I really have no clue. It's a three speed.

If you're going to swampers I'd go with the SSRs ...
37x12.50R15LT
or
38x15.50R15LT

I'd go to the 37s..... really....

They are radials and should wear decently.

Boggers will wear really fast ...

The reasons I say go down in tire:

1. Better mileage through a narrower footprint (if you go to the 37s) and less rolling mass.

2. You can get rid of the body lift easily within our capabilities) which will IMO look better and put less stress on your frame. Also smaller tires & no body lift will allow you to cut through wind a little better ... not that you'll notice much in MPG

3. LOWER COG ... much lower when you junk that body lift and go to smaller tires.

4. Smaller tires put a lot less strain on everything ... steering box, axles, driveshafts... Think about how easy it is to loosen something with a 4ft breaker bar vs a 8" ratchet ... you 44s are a 4ft breaker bar on those shafts....

5. Much more functional. Running a trail on my 33s can get hairy .... if I was 10 ft up in the air like you I would have been watching the whole time...

6. You'll be able to save room in the back when you put a spare in there, heck you might even be able to get a rear carrier to fit a 37...

7. Easier to get into and to pop the hood to work on stuff .... well you might still need a small stool but not a ladder

As for the gearing, I wouldn't imagine you'd be "racing" it on the highway anyway. Any long trip you take aren't going to be in it, but if they are we aren't going to be going very fast anyway.... Even if you do decide to regear, it'll just be that much less stress on your axles...

U-Joint? Go get one from PepBoys and bring it by Josh and/or I and we'll take care of that... lickety split .... Actually, We'll show you how to do it and make you do it, but that's how you learn. Hell I have learned more Bout my Jeep trying to fix crap this week than you'd believe....

yeah i forget that not every body drives 90mph+ on the intersate like me, so as long as you stay within the speed limit youll be fine with 5.13s

with a true 37inch tire you will be running 3261rpms at 70 mph
38- 3175- 70
39- 3093- 70
44- 2742 - 70
but since when we convoy we rarely go over 50mph you would be turning 2329 rpms with 37s and just for the hell of it with the same tire you will be turning 4192 rpms at 90 mph

depending on what you do with your rig,
street/trail
36" tire 4:11-4:56 gear
38" tire 4:56-4:88 gear
40's... 4:88-??
trail only
I'd go with the higher (numerical)gear.

axle swaps can be costly, depending on the help recruited...
typically a rear 60 swap, gears, locker, spring perch relocation, driveshaft mods and misc brakes/bolts/correct rims I'd say would kill 1k pretty easy. depends on what kind of deal you get with the axle, type of locker (miller buzz locker??) etc.
give us the specs on your drivetrain and what you want to use it for. I know you want to stay with a HUGE tire, so we'll go from there. Tire size will kill parts life so expect that. pay to play kinda theory.
od tranny swaps with adapters will run $1200-$1500 doing your own install.

Like patrick said we have talked about this swap for sometime now on your truck...gearing should be fine if you stay 37-39" range.... still be driveable still wheelable to an extent.....
Your axles should be fine until we find a reason not to believe that.... that front u-joint is fine until you lock into 4x4 ....the rest is easy.....you are geared a bit low for a 3 speed but we'll sooner swap in a OD tranny than a external OD on your 3 speed...

I keep seeing your truck at L&S off of old jefferson...is that Fisher's?

No, Fisher's is by Capital Buick. I brought it to L&S on a recommendation. I went to pick it up today and the motherf'er woudn't start. I was going to put my tach in tomorrow, but I guess not anymore. Do I need to purchase a whole U-Joint? I truely do appreciate all ya'lls feedback, it's certainly not being ignored.

Yeah may as well get new u-joints for both sides so we can do both at the same time .... shouldn't cost much more than $30 ....

All right folks, looks like Hoss is trimming down. On ya'lls recommendation, I have decided to go to 38"'s. Couple of questions. What the difference b/t SSR Series Super Swamper Radial / TSL 38x15.50R15LT and the Super Swamper Radial / TSL 38x15.50R15LT? As far as back spacing and whatnot, how do I find that out? A girl that works for us at another one of our stores has a friend I think w/ 38's on his 78 Bronco, so I guess I could ask him. But I didn't know if there was some other way to tell. I should be able to afford the tires in the next one-three months, depeding on commissions and what not. I assume the body lift removal would have to wait untill I get rid of the 44"'s. Are there any bushings I need to replace the body lift? As far as the U-Joints, I am open whenever ya'll can help. Is there a universal U-joint? Or is it axle specific?

About the rims/tires, do ya'll recommend anyone else aside from Light Line? I'd really like to not get it from there if I can. Any other local, near local, or online places ya'll would recommend?

Whats wrong with the wheels you have now?

You can walk into most parts stores and tell them what you need for what year and they'll hook you up for the u-joint.
Before we pull your body lift let's take a look at your body bushing .... if they need it we'll change them out.

I got all my tires & wheels from 4wheelparts.com .... they had good prices on what I wanted and you can barter with them as well...

SSR is goping to have better wet pavement traction, looks like the tread comers further down on the sidewall, and it's probably a little quieter than a regular tsl radial from slightly closer lugs ...

Also....
SSR measures 38.2"
Regualr TSL radial is 37.1"

My rim is too wide. It's a 15"x14". Those tires won't fit on them.

Which tire should be better off road?
