am i the only one who believes that the hummer hatred is envy, not lack of ability?

heres my point.
1) show me a cj/tj/yj that you can mount a m2 .50 cal or mk 19 40mm grenade launcher on and carry enough ammo and equipment on to fight. before you say ww2 jeeps and m38 m38a1's they CANNOT carry 4 people and a machine gun.

2)show me the above listed vehicles carry 4 250lb men and gear through all kinds of terrain.

3)show me the above listed vehicle that can to 6000lbs, or carry 2500........

my point is everyone slams the damn things but they are PURPOSE built. a jeep that is a rock crawler is PURPOSE built. as i have said before i like fullsize stuff because it is multifunctional. no i cant fit where smaller jeeps go, but i havent seen them haul 4000lbs of quikrete and 2 passengers either.

even an h2 has its place.

YUp....

The Mall...

While you are correct about the Military H1's ...The Civilian models are vastly different..
And Dont even get me started on the H2.
That thing is as worthless as a Escalade ..
And It is not envy..(on my part at least) I just cant stand the attitudes that accompany the purchase of a $60000 Luxury Vehicle.. (Nothing wrong with that if thats what you want) But dont assume that because it has big tires and a skid plate from the Factory that it is the ultimate off road machine..
Which is how they are touted.. I have spoken to several people who own them and the one who has wheeled his agrees that it is not what they told him it would be.. And nowhere near what an H1 is..
Even in its civilian form..

I am not trying to argue .. Just showing you my view point..
I think I was the first to post about the Hummer Happening.. I want to go .. I would love to see what the civilian version is capable of. Other than the limited exposure I have had to them..

WHich is one idiot at the spillway who drove his in the canal (H1) another idiot at the hunting camp in Alabama that got drunk and thought his would cross a pond. (H1 also and it did not make it. however he was able to run until he was completely under water I would say about 14 ' of water ..That was very stupid)
And an H2 that got stuck at the spill way crossing the washed out drain pipe. at the very begining of the trail..

I would love to see one driven by a sober person with half a brain. Thats why I want to go..
No bashing .. I just want to watch.. Much the way the people watch when I bring my Grand Cherokee out to the woods.. Except after watching me .They rarely go... "What an Idiot."

Hope I have made my point without ruffling any feathers..

I have never met you but I look forward to it. You seem like a nice guy. And I already consider you a friend.

For the record I have, numerous times, invited people on various other forums to wheel with us. One board I always try to include is an H2 forum. I am all about wheeling and I don't care what people want to wheel. I'd accept an H2 into this club as fast as I would Ivan Stewart. I'd aslo kick a Bronco owner out as fast as any vehicle if the owner was acting irresponsibly or endangering others therby giving the club a bad name.

But.....
It's kinda funny.

I remember when I was a teenager and my dad brought home a Hummer test drive video. I watched that tape (still have it) and was pretty impressed. Even the civilian version seemed awesome to me. The weight it could carry, the approach & departure angles & the CTIS had me drooling. I agree that the H1 is quite capable for what it was designed for. Hauling a but load of stuff through crappy terrain. I won't ever say anything bad about an Hummer ... unless a Hummer driver starts to rag my toy and that would only be the usual messing around like I do with most of my friends.

My problem with H2s isn't with the actual vehicle itself. It's with the H2 propaganda vs the way the vehicles are used. Like Carl said, it's image is that of the super offroad & urban assult vehicle. Yet I never see one off road, or dirty. Hell, I'd love to get someone with an H2 to show me what it can really do. But I've already seen head to head video of the H2 falling short of the Hummer, so I doubt I'll be able to be convinced that it's just as capable as an Hummer.

On the road, I've been cut off by my fair share of H2 owners, and I often see them pushing what I imagine is 85+ on the I-10, which seems a little ridiculous. People shouldn't go that fast to begin with, and with that much weight behind them I'm sure it'd make for a nice wreck. I won't even get into the few I have seen weaving in traffic like they were in a chase scene or Days of Thunder. I have never seen an H2 hauling anything, ever. I've never seen more than 4 people in one and only seen 3 & 4 once each. Usually it's just one guy. So it appears that rather than use the vehicle to it's potential, it is used in an attempt to bolster the owners image, and that is a waste. I frown at that as much as the idiots with seemingly built Wrangles on 36s with chromed out crap all over them that never see dirt.

If any H2 owner ever even came to an event and hung out or wheeled, that alone would change my opinion. Until then, the most wheeling I've seen one do was hopping a curb at our M&G in N.O. I have no problem with their size, nor do I think they are uncapable vehicles, but until I see otherwise I am forced to believe that these vehicles are going to waste.

thats how i feel, but as in my other board post, i get the exact impression from JEEP owners. im interested in seeing what my truck can do on the trails with a diesel. i have 0 flex, but with lockers it should do well. it did damn well head to head with a samurai, and better than a stock rubi. the sami was HIGHLY modified with a rear locker, and i was stock, open geared, except the tires.....

OK , my 2 cents worth, If someone wants to buy the H2 ,let em. Then after about 6 years or repo man comes to get it first. Then you pick it up for a song.Personally I like my Blazer , and when I get it converted over to 4x4 ,I will really like it.Best of all it will be paid for with clear title.

I think one of the reasons people are buying them is the condition our streets are in, hell you just about need a 4x4 to traverse the mean ole streets of N.O. and when the heavens open up and flood the streets, you need 4x4.

People with big bucks always get what they want I guess. Its kinda funny to me and especially those H2 RECOVERY TEAM decals, gotta love it.

Lee.. Are you saying you have an H2? Or am I miss reading..
I dont mean any offense by it.. Just wondering.. Like I said earlier.. I would wheel with anyone..
Hell if you showed up in a Cadilac Sedan deville and wanted to ride.. I would lead the way.. OR follow or what ever... I am an equal operatunity mudder..

Bring it out and I will ride with you.. Hell I'll even let you pull me out if I get stuck..

Or course the way I drive .. Its not really if.. Its just a matter of when.. I will drive into anything..
And I do mean anything..And I think thats why I keep breaking things..

... ...hehe, just kidding, when I was a 17 yr old who didn't know any better I used to go in the woods in my 88' Cougar and play in the mud, only got stuck once and that was in a field, jacked it up and filled the ruts with broken chunks of concrete, then mananged to crawl to the road at full throttle, but couldn't get on the road cause it was raised about three foot higher than the field...my mom pulled me out with her Chebby Lumina minivan ...I gots no shame though, I own a bronco and drive a chevy, all vehicles have their good and bad points, jeeps have small size and get through the trails better than fullsizes, but fullsizes have the power, etc etc, to each his own, in the end it's personal preference, I prefer Bronco's over just about everything else, partially cause I own one, but I'd still never bash anyone else's sh*t and will give credit where credit is due, so here's to ALL my fellow members
