Be cool and stay in school. I wish I did instead of making friends and having too much fun at Nicholls. I lost my grant in 93 after 3 years of spinning my wheels.
I consider myself lucky, im in a oilfield related job and have steady progressed since dropping out of college, but I never let the bucks get to my head. Like big yella, I heard plenty of 80s horror stories about the oil patch and with that in mind, I live like my job will be over around the corner. Im always working at making new contacts and trying to soak up new info all the time "just in case" it all crashes down again. If I had a college degree, I wouldnt be getting nearly as dirty and I would be making even more $$$. And the stability and peace of mind would let me have a little more fun with the money instead of waiting for doomsday all the time.
Stcik it out for sure, and let that image of that old man  working for $8 burn into your head!

The official title is "Assistant maintenence supervisor" for a barge company that has over 800 barges of various sizes and types that are used for anything that you can imagine! And let me tell ya, they put some serious oversized heavy expensive one of a kind stuff on the barges.
The project that im inloved with right now, a spar platform that will be installed in the GOM later early next year (Mad dog) , well one of our barges is responsible for moving a $500,000,000. part without a expected mistake. IM talkin serious stress ! But my part is small, but important.
Thats why I say im lucky, with no degree and lots of on the job training over there years landed me this job that God willing, I will be able to retire from in 25 years! 
But I wont bash a college education at all, with it, I could probably make $7K more too!
