i learned something cool about our trucks that i wish id never found out, if you blow the fuse for the instument cluster lights the dome lights come on very dim just enough to light up the dash and see the gauges, now all i need to do is trace down the short and ill be ok, david did that set do that to you or is this a new problem cause i stuck a 30amp fuse in it after it blew all my 20amp fuses and it seems to work fine i cant find any hot wires and i dont smell anything burning yet, just wondering before i start tearing it all apart again

I had no problems with at all with it.Make sure the connector ribbon on the back is not bent or something . That could be the source of a short .I installed the gauge cluster from that Suburban into mine , everything worked except the turn signal indicators. I would take it out and inspect the ribbon connector and make sure its ok.

More interesting chevy info, when converting to a 14FF the rear u-joint conversion number is dependant on your transmission aplication, which is why i thought about 448 which works in my app.
