Have a 1988 Fullsize Bronco XLT
126K 302 FI engine.

I am having problem with the steering binding.

I bought this Bronco about 3 weeks ago from the original owner, he never had it off road or wrecked it. He had Tie rods, caster adj, steering box replaced within the last year (had reciepts). I felt the binding when I bought it. All the linkage felt tight underneath and the pitman arm looked ok. So I made the guy an offer of $2800 thinking the steering box was a poor rebuild (no bushings or bearing just seals).

Well I bought a Lares rebuilt steering box (new bushings, bearing and seals) and put it in and had realinement done, and guess what! the steering still binds

I have also been getting exhays fumes in the interior, more noticable when in slow trafic or at a stop sign, (no wind to blow away). cheked all emission system connection in the eng. Tailpipe and muffler(single) look ok. Has two cats, both look old as well as pipe coming from the manifols. I think this may be the problem. I am going to have system inspected but wanted to see what options I have when replacing the cats (do I need two?) and what s the best most & cost effective.

I'd have to say, on the steering....Get under the front and have someone spin the wheel and see if anything looks out of sorts. Could be just about anything not lined up that's binding.

On the exhaust leak, that's not something to mess around with. It's what you can't smell that'll kill you. Bite the bullet and head to a repair shop.
