My '85 Bii is so weak on highway hills I can't stand it! I have an '81 T-Bird with a 302 that runs and I think I should use the 302 in my Bii. I am not sure of the correct steps to follow or the thransmission I maybe I should change to. What about differential changes? I live where omissions checks aren't required so I want my 302 stripped of the 'Garbage' and to be a good cruzer as well as have the torque I need to do most hunting trails. I don't care about "Rock Climbing". I do want the right tires to get the job done but don't want to have to mortuage the house to buy them.
Are there any experienced mechanics here to walk me thru it and advise me on the best ways to go? I want to be able to drive long distances as well as 4x4 across streams, walk thru sand, mud, and snow up to the skid plates. I plan on adding a good whinch as well.
I am highly mechanically inclined. have most of the tools (minus an engine puller and ??) and have rebuilt the carb., the top end of a toyota R22, done my own brakes many times over the years, done the preventative maintenance etc over the years on all my vehicles. I will be able to do most of it and still need to ask the occassional questions.
If you don't know please give me leads to find out for myself. Chaps.
