I just got it a week ago. I don't know what kind of oil they used before (I guess I could call them and ask). I'm thinking about putting synthetic oil in there. My question is is it bad to change from regular to synthetic? What kind of viscosity should I use. Also, should I buy my own oil filter if I'm planning on having it serviced at a shop?

It has 125,00 miles.

5/20 I use the Ford synthetic blend on my LX Sport & Ford filter since new 170k miles. I buy it at Walmart and change it myself. but with the new panther chassis in 03 it's tuff to get to and it runs down rack&pinion - such is life. My 99 linc tc way easier.

It says to use 10w20 because it was manufactured in Canada where the weather is a LOT colder.
I just bought a 2004 CVPI and I live in Virginia.. It has 104,000k on it and I switched it over to
Mobil one 5w30 synthetic (the 15,000k / high performance), and it's running great. Just drove to Durham NC last weekend with no problems. It couldn't hurt to do a quick engine flush with GB engine flush... That's what I did. Because of the weather here in America on the east coastal side, I would recommend 5w20 mobil one synthetic, and you will not ever have an oil related problem in the future and your engine will last longer.

I was so excited to get my new CVPI! Enjoy it, and take care of it so it will take care of you..

Peace

By the way, if you do switch to synthetic ( which I highly recommend ) you can't EVER go back to standard oil EVER again... Trust me it will screw you up. Switching over to synthetic will be better and run a lot smoother.
