There is a guy on eBay advertising Fleetguard LF-691 oil filters. He claims the filter is the same as the OEM oil filter but about 3" longer, holding another quart of oil, and of course more filter media. Selling them for about $10 each in cases of six.
Anyone heard of these? Experiences? I know the Fleetguard's are good filters.
I hate to express my ignorance, but is the bypass mechanism in the filter or in the housing? I wonder that if it's in the filter if the setting (spring tension) on the larger filter is the same as the OEM filter (whatever that setting is).

Hey Scott - Thanks for the filter advice on earlier post!
NOW you want another quart of oil !! Isn't 15 enough ?(only kidding)? Actually, the price on those Fleetguards isn't bad BUT, I agree 100% with your concern about the bypasss valve which, I believe is in the filter.
You're in Florida (I'm West Palm) so check Sears for the $3.00 Purolator filters. If tht's the price, buy a bunch!! I probably bought all the K-Mart/Penske filters in Florida!!
HEY, who else is in Florida-??? How about a few cold one's at a central location. Talk about filling up the parking lot!!! Actually, we should meeet in Georgia and tank up on the cheaper Diesel- Wilco or Hess at St. Mary's Road exit?????

Hi Greg,
I'm happy to report that the Fleetguard LF691 filter is working great and fit perfectly. I spoke to a guy over on Okeechobee at Kelly Tractor and he told me not to worry about the bypass unless I was going to go for extended interval changes (which I'm not). The bypass only kicks in when the filter is blocked.
Call me anytime, 561-762-8199 Royal Palm Beach.

i would never use a filter without bypass. yes, they kick in when filter is clogged, but how do you know when thats going to happen. i have seen new filters that are defective. you may say, keep an eye on the gauge, what if your late watching the gage. be carefull, these motors are not cheap and warranty wont cover it with non approved filter.
