Just started this weekend. Last weekend we went to Vegas and back, no rpoblems. Had it in for a once over before the trip.Had a few noises and couple small things to look at, but they gave it back with an alls good. Did the vegas thing, and now this weekend went to Santa Clarita, and on the way there felt a little more bumpy than usual. Didn't think much of it, thought it was the FWY. On the way home, when ever I came to a stop or a turn, It would bounce more. the front end.

Got home late and was tired, looked at the tires this morning and they have a noticable tread wear pattern. Link below to see the tire wear.

Thanks for any quick responses to this. I know I need to get it to the shop asap. Just want to have all my ducks in a row sort-a-speak. Make sure they aren't pullin my chain.

THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE!!!

How much air you running in the??? I have PJ Dirt Grips and thats what mine looked like and did, so I played with the air pressure in the tires and have to run 50 in the front and 40 in the rear and they smoothed themselves out and rides good again. Have you had the tires balanced lately??? Always remember when you remove the tires you torque the lugs to the right setting to prevent rotor warping!!! Good luck!!!

I have 50psi all around.
I always forget to mention I have a 2001 X, Limited, V10, 2WD.
I have also talked with a friend, he said it could be the shocks?
Thanks,

The ford service guy says it is due to an alignment problem, and not covered under warranty. This I really don't understand. How can an alignment not be covered under warranty when the definition of alignment is:

A vehicle is said to be properly aligned when all suspension and steering components are sound and when the tire and wheel assemblies are running straight and true.

The alignment that casues the tires to wear wrong, that is determined from the way the suspension and steering is setup, isn't covered, but if the shocks are bad, they are covered?

I don't what else I can do to get the ford service guys to understand this.

Wondering if this makes any sense to anyone else.

I have 12630 miles on my 2001 X, V10, 2WD, after a trip back from las vegas is when I noticed the wear pattern in the front tires. Sunrise Ford Service People are telling me that becasue I didn't rotate the tires when I first purchased the vehicle, with 9200 miles, and the tires needing balancing all of a sudden, and the alignment being off, how far it is off I don't know, it doesn't pull left or right, goes straight on an even road, just doen't make sense to me at all.

Am I missing something here. Am I wrong in saying werther or not you rotate the tires every 3000, isn't going to give you cupping. something is causing the cupping. All the tire dealers websites use the same diagrams and state this:

Cupping may be a sign that wheels are out of balance or that suspension or steering system parts are worn out.

Not alignment.
Right now I am waiting for a phone call to see if the tires are balanced or not.
No that I will be able to no for totally sure now, since I dropped it off yesterday.

Any help or suggestions on this is greatly appreciated.
I love my X and want it to last for many years, but don't want to fork out $130 bucks for alignmnet and balancing every 300 miles.

There were some guys getting a group purchase of centramatic wheel balancers on here not too long ago. This would be one way of solving the balancing issue, as they are supposed to make it so that the tires do not need balancing as they are balanced using centrifugal force. ??? You might look into that and see if they have had any luck with them??

I had some on my Hummer. They don't do any good unless you have your tires balanced to begin with.

I had the same problem on two of my vehicles... first time it took a while to figure out because it was a NICE 5.9 Limited Jeep with new tires... thought the tires were bad....
After MUCH gnashing of teeth - (mine on the tire shop!) Found out it was my shocks...
Although the same size, all the tread on the the new tires WEIGHED more than my old tires and the shocks were not up to handling the extra weight... so as soon as I put them on it was basically 'bouncing' more - which I didn't notice at first, but then the 'bouncing' made a tread pattern called cupping and took the tire out of balance/ out of round...

Changed front shocks -
put the front tires on the back and all was MUCH better -
not perfect, but MUCH improved !

(And shocks SHOULD be covered under warranty if not many miles on your Ex...)

On my '03 4x4 6.0L Ex I just had to have my rotors turned @ 8K miles under warranty...
may push for some new rotors...
