Since I'm still sorting everything out on my "newsed" 2000 X Limited, I have a few questions:
1. The truck didn't come with an owner's manual. So, where can I find the code to the keypad on the driver's door?
2. The door locks work intermittently (sometimes they unlock/lock, sometimes they don't) You can hear all of the actuators working, but they seem to be stiff or something. I pulled off the driver's door panel, and I lubed that actuator/linkage up good, but it still doesn't work right......are these actuators known for going out (only about 56,000 miles) Basically, all five of mine do the same thing, and most strange of all, the key fob will NEVER make them go all the way up or down, while the door switch will work some of the time.......also, how much am I looking at per actuator?
3. Finally, I went out to crnak the truck today (V-10, 4x4)in 25 degree weather, and it did something unusual: It would crank as if I cranked it, then immediately turned off the key. The engine turned over fine (battery's OK), but as soon as it would fire up, it'd go dead. It did this 5 or 6 times, and it didn't crank until I depressed the throttle to the floor once. No service/warning lights came on, other than at the normal start-up time.....certainly, depressing the throttle had nothing to do with that, did it? (I drove Suburbans for years, and I could always go to the Sub forum, and someone would say: "oh yeah, that's the so & so problem...they all do that...what you need to do is.....") I'm assuming these Excursions have certain "characteristics" too? Anyone have any suggestions on why it would have (not) started this way?
Thanks in advance,

Code keys are on a credit card size pad. You can re-program them if you have the code but the base code remains the same (i.e. two access codes). This is per the Ford book on my 02'. Expect you can replace the access bios (for lack of a better word) but bet it will cost 4-500 bucks. |

Quote: | Only the dealer can get that for you. I had the same exact situation. My dealer just hooked up the reader, wrote down the factory original code, and said have fun. Once you have the factory code you can reprogram it to whatever you want. But, you MUST have the original code to do this. I've heard other owners say that their dealer wants $50 or more to do this. What a rip-off! It took the tech about 2 minutes to get my code. Maybe my dealer is just a really good one. |
I have the same problem...There are 3 dealers within 10 miles of my house...2 of the 3 want to charge me 1/2 hour labor to pull the codes for the door. Haven't yet checked with the 3rd. I am waiting til I have them program a key also so I can get the most out of my 1/2 hour as possible. |

Rick had an EXCELLENT reply!!!
One thing that I would check for on the door locks....
Make sure that the door "locker" switch on the driver's AND passenger side is not sticking and that it is returning to it's original, centered position.
I have a carbon fiber kit on my truck and on the driver's side door a piece of it was rubbing against it and it would not come back to center sometimes. This caused the very problem that you describe. If you do not have any aftermarket trim pieces, you could have something lodged in there. It is worth a look.
I concur about the IAC valve.
