I just got back from Iraq and I’m ready to play with my X again. I have a 2000 4x4 V10 Limited and have replaced several parts, mainly in the front. For some reason, the front end feels shaky and not as solid as it used to. I have 285 Duelers and a Rancho steering stabilizer. My guess is that a bushing went bad when my brakes got really bad!!!. I cut the discs, replaced the calipers, replaced brake lines and put new pads. Well, lets get to the point;
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON WITH MY BABY????

First, welcome back and THANK YOU!
Now for the X, does it shake when braking, driving, turning, or just feel loose?

RS-TX, how is it going? I talked to you before I left to the land of the forgotten.
The problem is mainly on the HWY. I have balanced the tires and aligned the front end several times in different places but the X no longer has a smooth ride at speed. If I drive around 75, I’m good to go but if I go up or down a couple of miles, it starts to shake. The right front appears to be the source of the problem but I know for a fact that the tires are balanced. The front end feels solid when inspected but I heard that this type of front end feels solid when lifted from the ground but a ball joint or bushing might still be bad.
Sorry to say but I’m no longer your neighbor. I’m PCSing to GA.

i have had the same problem with my 2000 v10 x as well. my old tires {uniroyal laredos}had8/32 left of tread. 15/32 when new. i got uniroyal to give me 50 % credit on 2 tires and they then they did 50% on all 4 as its four wheel drive.the old tires balanced but one had a flat spot and one appeared to have a bounce in it as the belts might have been seperating. went with bf goodrich long trail ta.much better ride . huge difference. dont get as many bone jarring hits on ruff roads and the vibratiion is 80% better. i think i still have a bent rim on one rim.so i need to replace it. i noticed 5 2 inch weights on the one rim on the inside which is obviously a sign they had a tough time balancing that rim. when you get tire balanced have them put that little metal lever against your rim as it rolls and you can tell if its bent.i get a little vibration at 60 and 80 but 73-74 is the best speed .the shaking use to come at every speed when ever i backed off excelerating. |

First and most importantly - WELCOME HOME ! You're efforts ARE appreciated !
My vote would be shocks as well...
If they're bad the tires could start to 'cup' and no amount of balancing will help...
and secondly the tires if it's been sitting for a WHILE it may have developed a 'flat' spot....
I'd go to a tire shop of the manufacturer and see what they say is wrong...
They should evaluate it for free and then you can decide...
no need to tell them it's been sitting for a while...
in fact, I always find it's better NOT to tell too much - been known to over diagnose and lead them in the wrong direction :-)

i dont know about the shocks. i replaced mine as two were leaking , with monroe reflex. couldnt tell that much differerence.still had all the shakes with new shocks. im betting bad tires or bent rim along with 285's which will make it shake more if they are bad.i replaced tires on my suburban 6 months ago and had the shakes reel bad. they sent me to another store that had a better balancer and replaced two of the new tires that were 2 weeks old as they were bad from the get go.just my 2cents . |

Gents, I was lucky and a Firestone place here in Orlando replaced all of my Dueler Revos. The ride felt much better but the real test will be tomorrow when I head to Ft Benning, Ga. For the suggestion of replacing the shocks, Thanks!!! but I forgot to mention that I'm already running Monroe Reflex. I will be shutting down the computer for a couple of days. As soon as I get a place I'll let you guys know how the X is running.
Before I leave, THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!
