need some quick help. went to the dealer about the pinging sound on acceleration and he said they found nothing wrong on the puter. and there was nothing they could do about it . he also said that all v-10 have that pinging sound on exceleration! is that possible? if i heard that sound on my gto the first thing that would come to mind is timing and fuel. chaged fuel companies three times and no luck. someone here mentioned a knock sensor wouldn't that come up on the puter? can't beleive that a 40 grand truck supposed to sound like beans in a coffee can when putting the hammer down! |

well got the truck back with new fuel and air filter and still the same pinging someone mentioned a knock sensor. what is it, what does it do, and where is it located? i know that on older cars the detonation occurs when the timing is advanced to far thus needing higher octane fuel.( along with bad fuel or carbon build up) i can not drive a car/truck with that noise coming from the engine. it is just not right. every time i hear that ping i know that i am damaging my motor. i sure hope you guys can help me |

Jimmy ive got the same issue with my 2001 V-10 and it only has 17,000 miles on it i put premium gas and it seems to stop but ive heard not to put anything but 97 octane or youll speed up the chances of your engine getting spark knock mine really does it going up a hill sucks man i hate hearing that noise sure doesnt make it seem like a new vehicle I can relate to you! |

well still have the detonation ( spark knock ) problem the ford guy still maintains that this is normal!! from reading about this topic i hear guys with chargers have this problem and have to adjust the spark curve and or fuel deliverey to fix this problem. why can 't ford do the same thing just back off the timing a little or increase the air fuel mixture? it has also been mentioned that it could be the egr valve or coming from the exhaust manifold / y pipes design. |

hope you are still around. Did you ever figure out what the wat causing the pinging? My 2001 is doing the same thing, 91 octane doesn't help. Pings in 2nd and 3rd under load, higher rpms usually. Seems like it's causing a lean condition or something. |
