I live near a big hill where i have to drive up and down when driving up the hill the motor seems to strain slight spark knock type of sound very faint however, push overdrive off and it roars up the hill also going down the hill i take overdrive off to use the engines compression to slow down instead of the brakes I have to do this at least ten times a day will i mess up the tranny by doing this please help! |

I don't think that it will mess it up, I think that is what that button is for, that is how I use it when I have to. The OD off button simply downshifts it into drive which should be used when going up a hill where the tranny is trying to shift. This would be a good ? for....Gearman. Don't worry I'm sure your question will be answered better than I tried. |

I hate it when im not needed anymore.  you have been given good info by wheels. that is what the button is for. i carry a kit that reverses the button ( you must hit button to engage o/d).
the computer that runs your trans is not always the smartest person on board., you are. and it sounds like you are living up to the job. always remember that you are the one with experience driving; uphill. downhill, with a load, and all that other stuff. the computer was programed by people under corporate direction that may know nothing about cars. you guys can figure the rest. they gave you a button, use it if you need. wont hurt at all.

Thank you guys very much I love my X and want it running good for a long time I will use the button to engage regular drive up the hill and down the hill again thank you for the feedback gosh i love this website its awsome!!!! |
