ok newbie question, have heard all discussion on x,u, and v front springs for front of excursion, first off what is the difference between springs, and what would the best spring for a 2000 X PSD 4X4 be to bring up the front end to level.. if ihave the 3 sets sitting on the floor how do i tell the differnce between all the springs,
have also heard about 3 in shackel ( bad spelling ) lifts for the excursion, what is the general concessious on these items and who makes them for the X
like my X and do not want to compromise ride but would like to make it look a little more manly with a slight lift and bigger tires...
thanks

Glenn,
Looks like you're post has been ignored. I have U-codes(4800lb) which raised the front a litte less than 1.5 inches. That's with the V10. I think V-codes(5200lb) would raise the PSD about the same. Go to thedieselstop.com and search under PSD Excursions. Bruce is the expert in that forum. The ride is firmer with more control and quicker steering. I like it. If you used x-codes(6000lb) you would need a taller block in the rear. There are pictures of my Excursion on this site. |

for some reason nobody seems to want to give answers, as stated i have a pile of springs all with the casting numbers stamped inbut noone seems to know what the casting numbers match up with x codes or any of the other ones, all i hear is look in the door jamb on the build tag, well if you don't have a truck tolook at just the springs it dosen't do any good, i finally got tired of being ignored and went and put 305/70's on today, they fit fine and do not rub at all.. sitts higher and drives better then the firestones

Unclemuck,
There 265's, now have about 50K miles on them, still alot of tread. I stayed with stock size for better traction in deep snow.
GlennZ
So you have a selection of springs, are they takeoffs from Mumbleys on Gratiot? I can get you the part numbers for the U-codes if needed. I bought them new from Ford dealer $112 ea. Install $120 total.

that chart is nice but it shows no casting numbers, how do you know what is what, as for the take offs, i do not deal with mumbleys, he and i do not get along anymore, i stoped into truck stuff on gratiot and hall road, he actually gave me a set of springs for nothing, he knew they came of off a ford 250 something just not sure what...
ii wanted to go larger then stock size but was afraid to goto the 305's, discount said they would try them on the front and make sure they don't hit, guy there said 315's would even fit, i put the 305's on stock rims and they fit flat as can be no bowing in the middle, am very pleased with the way it sits and rides

no hard feeling twords anyone, just thought people would research more,
i have seen both here and on the superford forum " go to your local 4x4 shop and ask them for recent spring takeoffs from a super duty they should have them and give them to relativly cheap " i did that and what i got was free just not sure what they were when i recieved them, but now i do
as for casting numbers i have worked with ford part numbers for a very long time, the casting base number itself does not change but the revision letter, so in the case of a spring for the excursion the first 4 letters will most always be YC35 as a base number followed by the revision letters ADB was 2000 and ADC was 2001-2002, this is how ford casting numbers work, the base number stays the same and the only change is revision letters, this has been the same for many many years , this is the casting number on the spring, not neccessarily the number you order by..
so when i first started inquiring about springs i was looking for someone that had the knowledge of the base casting numbers, thru all the years the numbers would have been similar and there is only 5 or 6 base numbers you would have to know.
like stated i like the looks of the X with 305's i may just order up a set of front shakles and hangers and new blocks in the back for 2 in worth of lift,
thanks again for the replies race engines are my specialty not lifts, did a few in my younger yrs
